I love to travel and take photos. The lens pushes me. It gives me courage. It helps me see.
I'm a completely self taught photographer. I believe that the most important aspect of taking a good photo is simply being there. What are you willing to do to get the shot? Where are you willing to go to capture the moment? What corner will you blindly turn just to satisfy your curiosity? What limits will you stretch? The second most important thing to me, is how you engage with people. It's not just about framing a moment, it's about putting the camera down at times and being in it too! I truly believe as a photographer, you can still be in the scene, in the moment, in the now. I don't just want to compose, snap, and exit. I want to make my subjects smile. I want them to learn something about me. I want to exchange positive energy. The next thing you need to know is the technical aspects. I'm not afraid to say this is my weakness, but I believe in surrounding yourself amongst people who know more than you and asking lots of questions. So, who wants to teach me?
Over the last few years I have been living mostly in New York City. I walk the streets of Manhattan with my Pentax around my shoulder. I have been working on a project called shooting-hoops.com while also traveling when I can to add to my website thaineave.com
I am a former ESPN SportsCenter anchor and have worked in television for the last decade, mostly in front of the camera. However, I have also directed a movie for Billabong, directed a commercial for Sony, contributed various articles and photos to magazines, and produced content for Fuel TV, Fox Sports, and various sports brands.
