I first came to the Rockies when I was eight. One of my earliest memories of the Rockies is watching a black bear swim the fast moving Athabasca River. I recall its strength and grace as it crossed the turbulent water. Since my teens I have been photographing nature, especially the landscapes, flora and wildlife of the Canadian Rockies and Canada's West Coast. The equipment has grown more sophisticated from a childhood Kodak Instamatic to my first SLR ( a Pentax Spotmatic) to the current digital equipment, but the joy of photography and the wonder at nature's beauty and complexity remain much as it was for that child watching the grace and power of a black bear.
