I first came to the Rockies as a child more than 50 years ago. One of my earliest memories of the Rockies is watching a black bear swim the fast moving Athabasca River. I recall its strength and grace in the turbulent water fascinated me. Since my parents gave me a Kodak Instamatic for my 10th birthday I have been photographing nature, especially the landscapes, flora and wildlife of the Canadian Rockies and Canada's West Coast. The equipment has grown more sophisticated from that early Instamatic to my first SLR ( a Pentax Spotmatic) to the current digital equipment, but the joy of photography and the wonder at nature's beauty and complexity remain much as it was for that child watching the grace and power of a black bear.
