I have been into photography for just over five years now and continue to enjoy it more every day. I'm currently a graduate student and the University of Buffalo in New York where I will be earning a Masters degree in Biology education soon. I find myself with my camera more often than is probably prudent with work and school to contend with but I make time and succeed in both. I began making photos in college with my fathers old Pentax K1000 fitted with the 50mm F2.0 that it was originally sold with. I spent many hours before even beginning to shoot anything learning how to use the camera and teaching myself what the various settings and controls did. I had no experience with photography prior to these early stages and often found myself taking photos of everything (sometimes without film in the camera) simply to learn all that I could about this fascinating new medium. With formal training out of the question based on a college student's meager earnings, this was all I could do to improve. After spending over a year shooting and developing, I began to consider moving on to a DSLR now armed with a firm grasp of the intricacies of exposure and composition gleaned from much practice on my K1000. I worked for a full summer to afford a Pentax ist* DL which I used up until just recently when I purchased a K20D as an early Christmas present. I get the most satisfaction out of shooting landscapes and wildlife but I often find myself venturing down different avenues simply to experiment and see what happens. I enjoy night photography above all else because of its ability to transform an average scene into one of mystery and interest. I get a sense of accomplishment when making photos at night because it is often so far outside the realm of the photographic possibilities that many people believe exist.
